EMAILS

Email is different from text messaging. In a text message conversation; two parties expect to engage in multiple, rapid back-and-forth exchanges, asking for clarification and providing corrections when necessary. Generally, you are texting somebody you already know well, about a shared interest, and the subject of the conversation will change as your time together progresses. But email is part of most people’s work routine. Most professionals who get 20 or 50 or 200 emails a day do not want to engage in a leisurely back-and-forth, they want to clear out their inbox and move on to their next task. If your subject line is vague- or even worse, if its blank – you have missed your first opportunity to inform or persuade your reader. Remember – your message is not the only one in your recipient’s mailbox. A clear subject line will help a busy professional to decide that your email is worthwile.

Subject: (Blank)

If you don’t include a subject line, you are suggesting that your name in the “From” line is all your recipient should need in order to make you message a top priority. to That could come across as arrogant, or at the very least, thoughtless. A well-chosen subject line is an important opportunity to inform and persuade your reader.

Subject: “Important! Read Immediately”

What is important to you may not be important to your reader. Rather than brashly announcing that the secret contents of your message are important, write an informative headline that actually communicates at least the core of what you feel is so important “Emergency: All cars in the Lower Lot Will Be Towed In 1 Hour.

” Subject: ‘Quick Question.’

If the question is quick, why not just ask it in the subject line? Subject line is hardly useful.

The most embarrassing moment of your life: Though embarrassments are part of our life and not even a day passes in which we do not encounter a minor or a major embarrassment of one kind or the other. Everyone has his own bag of embarrassments. It is always a bitter experience to recount or recollect one’s bad moments or embarrassments. I have been through a major embarrassment in my life some five years back. That was very harrowing period of my life. Actually, my friends had credited me with grand success. That success or feat was then rated as one important feather in one’s cap. I was overawed by the huge rush of accolades I received and euphoria that is created. But what pinched me a lot was the truism that lie has no legs to stand on. At times I thought of talking to my friends frankly about this false proposition of being congratulated for nothing as such. But then I thought it would be quite wrong at this odd hour. Finally, one good day I mustered courage told some chosen few good chums about this proposition.
